Food Tastes Better Outdoors

We all have days when we want to slow things down a bit and just be outside to enjoy some beautiful weather. That is a very easy thing to do when vacationing in Pigeon Forge. Not only can you walk outside your Bear Crossing vacation condo and have a riverside picnic on the property, the Pigeon Forge Parks and Recreation department offers a few convenient spots for you to pack a picnic, grab a book, and get busy relaxing!

One of the most well known parks in Pigeon Forge is Patriot Park. Patriot Park is a beautiful, peaceful park that sits alongside the Little Pigeon River. If you are looking for a place to take a pleasant walk and escape the hustle and bustle of Pigeon Forge, there is a half-mile trail within the park that also pays tribute to local individuals that have served in the Armed Forces. This area is absolutely perfect for an afternoon or evening picnic with the family that includes a leisurely stroll, a game of catch in the open field, or a few laughs feeding the ducks and geese. Patriot Park hosts annual activities that are “must attends” such as the Pigeon Forge Winterfest Kickoff4th of July Fireworks and the Patriot Festival. Patriot Park offers a gazebo and picnic pavilion that can be used for events free of charge with a reservation made through the city.

In its efforts to ‘go green,’ Pigeon Forge is making great strides with the Riverwalk Greenway program. Currently around two miles long and running beside Bear Crossing, this greenway is a great place to go walking, running or biking while surrounded by the great outdoors. Located along the Riverwalk Greenway trail is an area called the Plaza @ Butler and Ashley, which contains a small park with a few benches and a drinking fountain for those of you looking for a quick picnic break. With convenient entrances at Patriot Park, Butler Street at Ashley and Jake Thomas Road, the Riverwalk Greenway is a great place to spend time with nature.

If you’re heading out to play minigolf or ride go-karts, don’t let that interrupt picnic plans! The Track Family Recreation Center has lots of large trees that provide a cool canopy over their riverside picnic tables. The Track welcomes you to come have a day of fun and enjoy their perfect picnic spot any time.

For a quick stop to have a bite and maybe even wade in the river, make a stop behind Food City. It’s a favorite picnic spot for all our ducks!

Get Busy and Do Nothing!

Coming 2013: Wear Farm City Park. When open in the spring of 2013, Wear Farm Park will take center stage as the main park for Pigeon Forge. It will be a grand total of 118 acres and include five lighted baseball/softball fields, a lighted football field, a multi-purpose field, two playgrounds, three picnic shelters, walking trails, and basketball courts.

We hope you’ll pack up a romantic or family picnic and spend some time ‘doing nothing’ together while you’re here. It’s a perfect opportunity to experience another side of the great city that is Pigeon Forge!
